At Hayfield Secondary School, our focus is on student achievement. A student’s grade is based on achievement: what he or she knows and is able to demonstrate (mastery learning).  All assignments must be completed in order to accurately assess what a student knows and is able to do so that appropriate feedback can be given to every student.  Teachers, school counselors, and administrators will ensure that students take advantage of all opportunities to demonstrate mastery of content.   Assignments are given due dates so that learning can progress sequentially in a timely manner.  Students who have not had an adequate opportunity to demonstrate mastery of content because of excused absences or extenuating circumstances should work with their classroom teachers and school counselor to complete the missing assignments.   Students who habitually fail to turn in work on the assigned due date will be subject to an academic intervention.  Late work will be accepted with a maximum penalty of 20%.  Work will not be accepted after the unit test has been administered.  If there is an overlap between the unit test and the end of the quarter, then the turn-in deadline will be the last day of the quarter.  If the academic intervention was unsuccessful and no work has been submitted, a failing mark may be assigned.

Late Work - School Policy: If a performance is missed the student will have one week upon returning to school, to make-up the grade. To make-up the grade, the student must perform his/her concert music for the director. It is the responsibility of the student to schedule a time with the director to make-up the grade.
Students who have not had an adequate opportunity to demonstrate mastery of content because of excused absences or extenuating circumstances should work with their classroom teachers and school counselor to complete the missing assignments. Late work will be accepted with a maximum penalty of 20%. Work will not be accepted after the unit test (concert) has occurred except in extenuating circumstances.

Winter and Spring Break Policy Hayfield Secondary School celebrates Winter and Spring Break as family time that is homework free time.  No homework will be assigned over the break.

Final Examination The final examination for Guitar I and II will be a culminating performance at an in-school recital in late May. The selected piece must be at an appropriate performance level for the ensemble and approved by the teacher.

The Hayfield Honor Code  I promise on my honor not to lie, cheat, or steal.  I will promote high ethical standards, foster unity, contribute to a trustworthy environment, and improve the spirit of Hayfield Secondary School.  If I do not follow this code of conduct, I agree there will be consequences for my actions.
